Oklahoma’s sophomore U.S. Rep. Stephanie Bice says the state can play an important role in the biotechnology industry as the state continues to be a leader in innovation.
The Republican representative made the remarks Tuesday, Aug. 19, as part of a stop on a industry tour by the National Security Commission on Emergency Biotechnology. The bipartisan U.S. legislative commission is charged with examining the intersection of emerging biotechnology and national security. Biotechnology firms and researchers use living things, especially cells and bacteria, in industrial processes.
Bice, who represents the state’s 5th Congressional District in the Oklahoma City area, has served on the biotechnology commission since its formation in 2022. When she was appointed to the commission, Bice cited the Taliban’s seizure of U.S. military biometric devices.
